of Western Cemetery's Tomb facades
restoration project and restoration of the Daveis Memorial
Gate has gotten under way with earnest. The story ran in the
Portland Press Herald October 4, 2003. I went to the cemetery
the Sunday after seeing the story and realized I had missed
the gate itself being taken apart, but I was able to photograph
all the tombs at that time.

The project is a joint effort,
a public-private partnership, of the Stewards of the Western
Cemetery and the City of Portland. Funding for the project
is provided by public funds, City of Portland money exclusively.
Graves plan to photograph the event as
it happens and provide a record of the project. We will shoot
photos in the afternoon and in the evening and post them here
the next day.
The tomb pages would come alive with more info about the original
owners and the family members buried in them. If you have any
info to share, send it to me and I'll post it along with the
tomb pictures and include it in the cemetery database.
