116
stones were knocked over in one of the worse cases of vandalism
the cemetery
has seen in over a decade.
My
wife, Lisa, and I walked the cemetery on Saturday morning,
the 15th of November to see for ourselves. The newspaper
reported it happened in the old section, so we went to the
old Westbrook
section. We saw nothing.
We continued our walk around the back and made our way to the
ponds. Still nothing seemed out of place. We walked up the hill
on the other side of the pond and walked the street that passes
in front of the new section and found everything in place. We
began to wonder if the newspaper had exaggerated the story.
We
walked the street that goes toward the Church. The great
statues were standing strong. Everything seemed in place.
We made our way toward the car and saw four or five city trucks
and a backhoe toward the front part of the cemetery. We started
walking
toward them and then it struck us. We looked at where we were
standing and you could see it.
